Many congratulations to Raw Skills Palace U11 who won the Crowborough & District Junior Football League Spring Trophy Event!

Raw Skills Palace played 5 games in the second half of the spring term and had won 4 games going into the final match against Broad Oak & Horam Tigers. At the final whistle they had lost 3-0, but after a team hug and some consolatory words by the coaches the team began jumping around in a buoyant mood as they knew they had enjoyed themselves and played their best; this was good timing as a final team photograph was taken, with smiles!

After the game, ‘the Lion’, (you know who you are!), asked me, “Can we still win the league?”, I replied “Broad Oak have 2 more games to play so if they lose, we might be in with a chance”.

The Results Came in!

Two weeks later, I received an email from the Crowborough League congratulating us for winning the league. What a surprise! The parents were all complimentary as the email replies came firing back to me after receiving the good news.

The most resilient game we saw the boys play in was against Tonbridge Junior Lions in mid-March when the sleet was virtually horizontal blowing into their faces. We went a goal up in the first half and the game should have been stopped with the adverse weather, however, the referee continued the game and the opposition certainly did not want to concede the game. It ended 1-0 with the boys absolutely frozen in-pain, but inside they were glowing!

Well done to all the players, coaches and parents!

As some of you may be aware, Raw Skills FC has been undergoing a bit of a digital transformation in 2018, so that we are setting the club up for further success in the future.

Firstly, we trialled the Teamstuff mobile app in 2015 with a couple of the year groups to great success, spearheaded mainly by Sarah Endersby and Martin Harris, but also by anyone who downloaded and tried out the app.

Three years on the Teamstuff app is now the preferred team management platform for our club and we would encourage anyone who doesn’t use it currently to please download it from the app store and get involved – it’s brilliant!

ioS App : https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/teamstuff/id569378409?ls=1&mt=8.
Android : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beyondsoftware.teamstuff
Website : https://teamstuff.com/

Secondly, social media. We have launched an official Raw Skills FC Facebook page, which can be found here : https://www.facebook.com/rawskillsfc/.

We’re really keen to make more of this channel and so would ask anyone connected to the club to Like the page, share and / or comment on our posts or send us news, info and photos to include in future posts. We may launch Instagram for the 18/19 new season, so if anyone would like to get involved, please email gareth@influence.digital.

Finally, we are happy to share that we have recently launched a brand-new mobile-friendly website at : https://www.rawskillsfc.com/. Designed and built by Influence Digital, our new website is a brilliant resource and holds news, match reports, a photo gallery, events, new player registrations, Russ’ The Soccer School, club contact info, FA and League and has a fixtures integration from Teamstuff. One thing we really need to build out the website more, is content from any team managers or admins, match reports and photos. Please send any relevant content through to info@rawskillsfc.com and for 18/19 season we will look to give website access to all team admins and managers, if required.

A big thank you to:

Gareth Currie: and Influence Digital for the designs and the build.
Simon Price: for content and testing.
Sarah Endersby: for ideas and enthusiasm.
Tim Connolly: Ideas and final review.

The colours of Raw Skills Football Club are now being proudly sported in the Ethiopian village of Lalibela following a visit by former Raw Skills player Will Watson, now a sixth former at Millfield School in Somerset. Lalibela is twinned with nearby Glastonbury, and Will’s visit is part of a widescale development programme for Lalibela High School in which Millfield has participated since 2004, contributing towards the installation of safe water, electricity supply to the classrooms, three IT rooms with new computers, 100 bench desks, over a thousand text and reference books and various items of sports equipment.

English football kit is always in demand and Raw Skills were delighted to have the opportunity to donate several teams worth of used but good condition shirts, shorts and socks for Will to take on his trip with him. Some of the kit was handed over prior to a match between the High School boys and their Millfield visitors and was immediately put to good use, as the attached photos show.

Raw Skills chairman Tim Connolly said: “This is a wonderful way to use football to contribute to an initiative that is making a real difference to the lives of youngsters in Lalibela. Raw Skills has donated football kit to a school in Kenya in the past and the club is delighted to have been given the opportunity to continue this tradition in Ethiopia.”

More information about the Lalibela projects can be found at www.lalibela.org.uk Raw Skills is a junior football club based in the Oxted area. We play most of our home games at Edenbridge Recreation Ground and two of our teams play at Queen’s Park in Caterham. We cater for young footballers aged 7 – 16, whilst younger children from the age of 4 are welcome in our sister organisation, Raw Skills Soccer School, which is based at the Glebe Field in Limpsfield.
