The colours of Raw Skills Football Club are now being proudly sported in the Ethiopian village of Lalibela following a visit by former Raw Skills player Will Watson, now a sixth former at Millfield School in Somerset. Lalibela is twinned with nearby Glastonbury, and Will’s visit is part of a widescale development programme for Lalibela High School in which Millfield has participated since 2004, contributing towards the installation of safe water, electricity supply to the classrooms, three IT rooms with new computers, 100 bench desks, over a thousand text and reference books and various items of sports equipment.
English football kit is always in demand and Raw Skills were delighted to have the opportunity to donate several teams worth of used but good condition shirts, shorts and socks for Will to take on his trip with him. Some of the kit was handed over prior to a match between the High School boys and their Millfield visitors and was immediately put to good use, as the attached photos show.
Raw Skills chairman Tim Connolly said: “This is a wonderful way to use football to contribute to an initiative that is making a real difference to the lives of youngsters in Lalibela. Raw Skills has donated football kit to a school in Kenya in the past and the club is delighted to have been given the opportunity to continue this tradition in Ethiopia.”
